A minimum of nine tornadoes struck the Dallas, TX area on December 26th. Churches, homes, and businesses were damaged; some were completely destroyed. In the city of Rowlett alone, 854 homes were affected by the storm, including 148 homes completely destroyed.
Compounding the search and recovery efforts over the last few days is a 40+ degree drop in temperature and the appearance of snow/ice on the ground.
Many of you are still considering year end giving opportunities and ways to help those who have suffered. The following is a list of ways you can assist with recovery efforts in the area, which will be updated periodically:
Texas Baptist Men. This group is not known outside the area but one of the most effective. They go into areas quickly with trained first responders, assess and provide for needs on the spot, and avoid the limelight.
The Salvation Army in Texas. One of the most trusted charities in the world (and Texas).

The American Red Cross. Donations will support the organization as a whole. They have a partnership with American airlines to reward some donors with airline miles through AA Advantage.
